Reports to VP of Operations
Status: Part-time
Compensation: $12-13.50/hour, depending on experience
Time: Approximately 20 hours per week (i.e. 1:00 – 5:00pm M-F)

Position Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and charismatic individual to facilitate safe and educational activities. The Education Coordinator is a part-time position charged with implementing educational programs for Children’s Museum of Illinois. This person will work with community organizations, schools, and families to bring valuable science and art education to children in Macon County. This position requires some evenings and weekends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit an upbeat, positive attitude 
  • Plan and implement educational programs and activities with a STEAM focus for children of various ages
  • Maintain and create positive relationships with school partnerships
  • Adhere to budget and grant guidelines 
  • Create a safe, educational, and engaging atmosphere for students and educators

Qualifications:

  • 2+  years working with children in an educational or recreational setting
  • Completed or pursuing a degree in education, recreation, or other relevant study
  • Must possess a warm, friendly, positive attitude with plenty of energy
  • Understanding of Illinois and Next Gen Education Standards specifically in the arts and sciences
  • Must be able to think on feet and adjust to unexpected occurrences in a timely and professional way.
  • Must conduct self in a professional and respectful way around parents, children, teachers, and staff. 
  • Must be able to bend, lift, and be on feet for extended periods of time
  • Must able to work afternoons and have a flexible work schedule
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must be accepting and work with children and adults of different abilities, ethnic, social, religious, and personal backgrounds.
  • A passion and sincere appreciation for the Museum’s mission

Physical requirements include working for extended amounts of time at a computer. This position may also require extended periods spent standing and walking. Some time may be spent stooping, kneeling, bending, squatting/crouching, crawling/kneeling, pushing/pulling, and reaching above the shoulders, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Occasionally lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as furniture, file cabinets, equipment, boxes, etc. may be required. Work may require weekends and/or evenings.
