Reports to Dir. Education & Outreach
Status: Part-time
Compensation: $17-22/hour, compensation will vary based on experience and qualifications.
Time: Approximately 20 hours per week (i.e. 2:00 – 5:00pm M-F)

Position Summary:
We are seeking a motivated individual to join our education team as a part-time staff member. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about education and child development, with a focus on after-school programming for elementary-aged children in collaboration with Decatur Public Schools (DPS). This position is grant-funded and therefore it will be renewed annually as funding is available.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicate effectively with Decatur Public Schools to schedule and coordinate after-care programming
  • Prepare and facilitate engaging educational activities and programs tailored to elementary school children
  • Ensure a safe and supportive environment for all program participants
  • Setup and cleanup of program materials and spaces
  • Maintain accurate records of program attendance and participant feedback
  • Collaborate with museum staff and educators to develop and enhance educational content
  • Adhere to all museum policies and procedures, including safety protocols and emergency procedures

Requirements:

  • Must pass a background check prior to employment
  • Previous classroom experience preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation (programming will take place on-site at DPS schools)
  • Availability between 2:00pm to 5:00pm on weekdays
  • Flexibility to work additional hours as scheduled for special events or programs
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs as needed

  • Ability to perform light physical duties
