Today we have a fun science experiment for you and you child! You don’t have to worry about buying any materials for this because all of the items you will need are right in your own home. Have your child go around the house and find at least 4 items of all different shapes, sizes, and weights. These items can include (but not limited to) ones like:
- A toy car
- Silverware
- Blocks
- Small Balls
The only other to materials you will need for this activity are:
- A bucket to put your materials in
- Water to fill up the bucket
Now, are you ready for the fun?
- Once your child has collected whatever items they want to test out, help fill your bucket with a good amount of water. There should be enough water to be able to clearly see if your items have sunken to the bottom or floated on top.
- Now have your child place each item in the water and have them observe what happens!
- Create a discussion with your child on why they think their item either floated or sunk to the bottom.
- Did all of your items sink? Challenge your child to find an item they might think floats instead of sinks.
Feel free to record and send us your videos of your child engaging in this experience. We always love to see them!
